AHBRA is pleased to announce the commencement of legislation to prepare draft standards.
AHBRA are pleased to announce the commencement of the ‘preparation of draft standards for approval by the Minister under section 37 and publish the approved standards’, sections of the legislation.
The following sections of the Housing Act 2019 have been commenced:
- paragraph (c) of subsection (1) of section 9
- Section 37 (other than subsections (7) and (8)).
The Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, Darragh O’Brien, signed the commencement order with effect from 1st July 2021. This is an important milestone towards the implementation of our regulatory functions.
The draft standards will relate to:
- the governance of AHBs,
- the financial management of, and financial reporting by, AHBs,
- property and asset management by AHBs, and
- tenancy management by AHBs.
In line with the Act, AHBRA is required to submit the draft Standards to the Minister for approval within six months of the commencement date.
AHBRA has now commenced the drafting of new standards as outlined in the Act. We will be communicating with key stakeholders in coming weeks, outlining our approach including focus groups, webinars and representations on the draft standards.
